In prehistoric times, there were many types of oversized creatures on Earth.
1. Giant dragonfly
When dinosaurs had not yet appeared, the small-sized insects or animals that we often see today were actually giant in shape.
Meganeura dragonflies have a wingspan of up to 70 cm, which is said to be equivalent to the wingspan of a small kestrel.
2. Giant bird
The largest flying bird of all time to date is Argentavis magnificens.
3. Giant flying lizard
Quetzalcoatlus is a giant pterosaur that once appeared on Earth.
Quetzalcoatlus has a wingspan of up to 15m, is 4.8-55m tall and weighs 210-250kg.
4. Giant python
Titanoboa appeared in the Paleocene period (60 – 58 million years ago), with an appearance very similar to today’s pythons.
5. Giant sea scorpion
The giant sea scorpion (Jaekelopterus rhenaniae) is the largest arthropod that has ever lived on Earth.
6. Giant gorilla
Gigantopithecus blacki is a genus of hominid that existed from 9 million to 100,000 years ago in areas such as China, India and Vietnam.
Fossil finds show that Gigantopithecus blacki individuals were the largest of any ape species, with an upright height of up to 3 meters and a weight of about 540 kilograms.
7. Giant carnivore
Spinosaurus (spiky lizard) is a genus of carnivorous dinosaur that lived in North Africa, during the Alba and Cenoman periods of the Cretaceous period, corresponding to 112 – 97 million years ago.
Spinosaurus is the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever known, more than Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus.
